About meerkatPOS
meerkatPOS is point-of-sale and accounting software built for businesses that can't afford to stop selling just because the internet did.
What we build
meerkatPOS is an offline-first checkout and back-office system built on the open-source Frappe Framework and ERPNext. It runs as a desktop application: one machine at a location acts as the "Hub," connected to your own ERPNext server, and every other till connects to that Hub over the local network. Sales keep ringing up even when the connection to the wider internet drops, then sync automatically once it's back.
Unlike a checkout app bolted onto a separate accounting tool, every sale in meerkatPOS posts straight to a real, full double-entry accounting system underneath, so the numbers a business owner sees are the numbers that actually balance the books.
Who's behind it
meerkatPOS is built and maintained by Rootwise Inc., a software company based in Zimbabwe. We build tools for retail, restaurant, and multi-till businesses that need software to work the way their business actually operates: sometimes offline, often across more than one till or location, and always needing the books to be right.
Our approach
We try to keep meerkatPOS to the essentials: no bloat, no per-feature upsells, and no separate subscription just to see your own sales data. The software is free to install, and it's built on top of established open-source foundations (Frappe and ERPNext) rather than a closed proprietary backend, so the data a business enters stays on infrastructure that business controls.
